I’m an early 30s first time mum from Hampshire, UK, that went to Oman (that bit wedged between
the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Yemen) in 2009 to work. While there I met The Grumpy
Egyptian and in 2012 we got married. Despite being told from a young age that I was going to struggle to conceive without medical help, I began feeling a little unwell in the September of that year.
Shooting forward nine months and a charming spot of hyperemesis gravidarum (yep that thing Kate Middleton
had) with an emergency c-section at 37 weeks for good measure and the Mini
Grumpy Egyptian sprung into our lives. We decided it would be best to raise her
in the UK around her family, so back to my hometown we came and this blog
began. However we didn't have a fairy tale ending and now I'm finding my way as a single parent to an amazing little girl. We now live in Southampton, Hampshire, and spend our time finding fun (preferably cheap!) things to do, taking over coffee shops, visiting friends and family, and battling a seemingly never ending pile of clothes washing!
I returned to work full time when the mini one was 11 months old and now work in communications for the NHS so you'll never hear any emergency services/NHS bashing coming from me! Issy started school this year and I am both horrified and amazed at this milestone because while she was clearly ready, I'm not entirely sure that I am... especially when it comes to phonics.
This blog is meant to chronicle our adventures - the good, the bad and the damn right ugly - as a little family of two. I hope you enjoy and do get in touch as I love hearing from people (see here for details).
